Bank RI’s Annual Children’s Book Drive – Celebrating Reading Awareness Month

Books Are Wings is very excited to announce Bank RI’s Annual Children’s Book Drive, now in its tenth year. This annual drive allows customers to drop off gently used or new children’s books at any Bank RI branch for the month of March. March is National Reading Awareness Month, which was created to increase awareness about the importance of reading to a child’s development. With March’s designation as a special month to celebrate the impact of books and reading, it is fitting that Bank RI choose this month to generously open their branches to book donations.

Bank RI’s Annual Children’s Book Drive will help Books Are Wings to provide children and families around Rhode Island with the tools to start building their own libraries through our Book Spot program. The Book Spot program is a unique community offering where books are directly available in communities around Rhode Island.

Book Spots are designated outdoor and indoor structures stocked with children’s books all year long. These spots are readily available for children and families to find and take home books to keep. Structures and shelving units are hosted and maintained by community organizations throughout Rhode Island and are often built by volunteers who give their time to our organization.

Bank RI’s mission is “A passion for people, banking and the well-being of Rhode Island.” This book drive will allow customers to join in on the bank’s mission, supporting the well-being of families by providing access to books in communities where children may not have their libraries at home.

Additionally, Bank RI customers and Books Are Wings supporters can purchase special books from our Amazon wish list:

These titles are in high demand at our programs, or in languages we hope to have more content in for our communities.

Books Are Wings is very grateful for Bank RI’s support of our Book Spot program, and the generous donations from their Annual Children’s Book Drive will support many families in spending time together reading every day.
