In Rhode Island, only 37% of the state's third graders are meeting expectations in reading, according to Rhode Island KIDSCOUNT. In RI's core, urban cities that number drops to 22%.
Without regular access to books at home, young learners don't have the tools they need to practice their reading skills and families don't have the books to make reading a central part of their home life. Books Are Wings works to improve book access in Rhode Island by ensuring that books are available through our high quality literacy programs in the heart of communities: schools, community centers, parks and more.
