Give the gift of literacy.
We invite you to support Books Are Wings in our 12th annual literacy campaign that traces the journey of donated books. In Rhode Island's under-resourced communities, access to books remains a critical challenge, with only 20% of third graders in our four urban centers meeting reading expectations.
Each book donated to Books Are Wings embarks on an important journey:
-
The Introduction: Individuals, businesses, and community drives collect and donate new and gently used books that are ready for a second life.
-
The First Chapter: Dedicated volunteers carefully sort and prepare books for their new homes, and get them ready to be distributed at our programs.
-
The Middle Pages: Staff and volunteers distribute books through our high-quality literacy programs at schools, community events, and designated book spots.
-
The Final Chapter: Children across Rhode Island get books from our programs, helping them build their own home libraries.
By supporting this campaign, you make it possible for Books Are Wings to connect readers with books through our impactful programs like Books All Year, Read to 100, and Tale Mail.
This vital campaign runs through December 31, 2025. Your contribution supports our mission to put free books in the hands of children during the holiday season and all year long.
