This GivingTuesday, support Books Are Wings and give the gift of literacy all year long. Your generosity will directly support Books Are Wings’ core mission of putting free books in the hands of children. Every child in Rhode Island deserves access to books in their home and to be excited about books and reading. Last year through our school and community programming, Book Spots and participation in community events, we put 76,899 books into our local communities. This year we’ve been able to serve more people than ever – building the libraries of families and empowering young readers. We are changing the literacy landscape in Rhode Island, and we need your help.
GivingTuesday is a global day of giving that happens on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. The GivingTuesday movement defines themselves as “…the world’s largest giving movement.” The movement shares their origins: “GivingTuesday strives to build a world in which the catalytic power of generosity is at the heart of the society we build together, unlocking dignity, opportunity and equity around the globe.”
We at Books Are Wings share these ideals, and work to foster the ideals of equity and dignity in supporting access to books and reading for ALL Rhode Islanders. Join us, and support Books Are Wings are wings as we work to support improved educational outcomes in reading, empower families to read together and provide the critical resource of books across the state, to children who might not otherwise have their own books at home.
Tomorrow, on GivingTuesday, December 3, Facebook will match a total of $7 million in donations first come, first serve beginning at 8 a.m. Please join our mission of empowering young readers and fostering a culture of reading in our community by supporting us this GivingTuesday.
