20th Anniversary Celebration

Supporters joined in the festivities with cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and awards to celebrate 20 years of Putting Free Books in the Hands of Children!  

Books Are Wings had the privilege of honoring four outstanding individuals and corporations for their extraordinary commitment to putting free books in the hands of children:

  • Mary “Molly” Clark: The Elizabeth Dennigan Founder’s Award will be presented to Molly for her extraordinary commitment to the purchase and donation of over 20,000 children’s books.
  • Collette: The Volunteers in Service Award will be presented to Lynne Kelly, Dan Sullivan and the employees of Collette for their eight years of volunteer service.
  • The Legacy of John Carter Jr.: The Legacy Award will be presented to Elisabeth Carter, the daughter of Letitia and John Carter Jr., whose passion for service and philanthropy to Rhode Island fueled Books Are Wings’ development and growth.
  • United Way of Rhode Island: The Village Award will be presented to United Way of Rhode Island for their collaborative efforts to bring local businesses, community organizations, individuals, and families to help foster a love of reading in children. Since 2012, United Way of Rhode Island’s Children’s Book Drive has resulted in the collection of over 164,000 books.
